Wayne Johnson
Service Writer
Joined the Crew in 2023
Wayne Johnson joined the team as a Service Writer in 2023, bringing 40 years of experience in boat building, repair, and systems design. A graduate of the Landing School’s Boat Building Program, Wayne turned his lifelong passion for boating and sailing into a career after visiting the school in 1990. His expertise spans both fiberglass and wood construction, making him a valuable resource for boat owners seeking guidance on repairs and improvements.
Throughout his career, Wayne has worked on numerous significant projects, including being part of the restoration team for two classic Concordia yachts—a 1957 sloop and a 1956 yawl. He also spent over 15 years as a project manager overseeing the construction of 17 Herreshoff Alerion sloops. Now, as a Service Writer, he enjoys working directly with boat owners, helping them get the most out of their vessels and overall boating experiences. His advice to boaters is simple but meaningful: “Take the time to appreciate all that boating has to offer.”
Before transitioning fully into the marine industry, Wayne spent 18 years in the restaurant business and co-owned Carburs in Portland’s Old Port, which was once voted one of the city’s most missed restaurants. Outside of work, he enjoys golf, gardening, and cheering on Boston sports teams. At the boatyard, he values working with an experienced crew and being involved in a variety of projects. For Wayne, the best part of his job is seeing the team grow in confidence and take pride in their abilities—something that keeps his passion for the industry alive.
