Shipyard Techncian
Joined the Crew in 2021
Ryan Sheehan joined Portland Yacht Services in 2021, bringing with him 30 years of hands-on experience in the marine industry. As a Shipyard Technician, his expertise includes commercial vessel maintenance, travel lift operation, and welding. With certifications in crane rigging and welding—and plenty of real-world knowledge earned through what he fondly calls the “school of hard knocks”—Ryan is a key asset when it comes to heavy-duty work on the waterfront.
Growing up on Peaks Island, Ryan was immersed in the boating world from a young age. Whether lobstering with his cousin or commuting to school on the Casco Bay Lines, he was never far from the water. That early exposure evolved into a lifelong career that’s included offshore fishing, lobstering, and scalloping. One of his favorite memories is longlining and dragging—experiences that highlight the gritty, rewarding nature of the job.
Ryan takes great pride in his role at the yard and always makes a point to greet customers with a smile. He treats each vessel with care, ensuring boats are safely hauled, launched, or serviced. His advice for boaters is practical: “Remember that commercial vessels have the right of way when limited in movement or attached to fixed gear.”
What Ryan enjoys most about working at PYS is the sense of unity among the team. He appreciates the hard work and accountability that comes with being part of a close-knit crew. For him, being a part of the working waterfront isn't just a job—it’s a contribution to the history and future of Portland’s marine industry.
