Joined the Crew in 2022
Matt Boldebook joined the team in 2022 as a Paint & Fiberglass Technician, bringing five years of experience specializing in fiberglass repair and gelcoat work. Despite having no formal training in his trade, Matt honed his skills through hands-on experience, learning the craft of boatbuilding under Stacey Raymond at General Marine. Before entering the boating industry, he studied Russian language and Eastern European studies at UMass Amherst and spent a decade working in the culinary field, progressing from a dishwasher to managing a kitchen. A career shift brought him to factory work, but after losing his job due to COVID, he found his way into boatbuilding—a trade that has since become his passion.
Growing up, Matt spent time at the Saco Yacht Club with his grandfather, who was a merchant mariner. Those early experiences sparked his appreciation for boats, and he now enjoys getting out on the water whenever possible. At work, Matt takes pride in delivering high-quality craftsmanship, ensuring boats are repaired efficiently and with attention to detail. His approach to customer experience is simple: do great work quickly and effectively. When asked for advice for boat owners, he jokingly suggests, “Don’t smash up your boat, and you won’t have to deal with me!”
Beyond the boatyard, Matt is a musician, playing guitar, bass, and singing in a band. He enjoys learning from his coworkers, picking their brains, and observing the various skills they bring to the job. The dynamic nature of his work is what he appreciates most—every day presents new challenges, from working on different types of boats to tackling diverse repairs in both indoor and outdoor settings. From trimarans to fishing boats, sailing dinghies to ferries, the variety keeps the job refreshing and engaging.
