Joined the Crew in 2024

Lucas Harkow joined the Rigging Department in 2024, bringing four years of hands-on experience in stepping and unstepping masts, splicing, and working with Spirit of Tradition yachts. His journey into the boating industry started by chance when he landed a job at North Sails in Portsmouth, RI. Over time, he grew into a management role but sought a change of pace, leading him to become a rigger at Hinckley Yacht Service in Portsmouth. Since then, he has remained dedicated to the craft of rigging, refining his expertise through on-the-job experience.

One of Lucas’s most rewarding projects was building a mast from a raw carbon tube and seeing the entire process through—from stepping the mast to sea trialing the boat. He takes pride in listening to boat owners' needs while also assessing a vessel’s functionality to recommend upgrades that enhance the overall experience. Problem-solving is a crucial part of rigging, and he enjoys collaborating with his team to find effective solutions that get boats back on the water and sailing smoothly.

For Lucas, the best part of his job is the balance it provides—living in Portland while working for good people in an industry he’s passionate about. He values the challenges and problem-solving aspects of rigging, as well as the teamwork involved in ensuring every project is completed to the highest standard.
