Paint & Fiberglass Technician
Joined the Crew in 2025
Cody Spruce joined the Paint and Fiberglass Department in 2025, bringing a decade of experience in carbon fiber vacuum bag laminations and fiberglass prep work. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from Eckerd College, blending his artistic skills with hands-on craftsmanship in the marine industry. His passion for offshore sailing led him to a career working on high-performance boats, where precision and attention to detail are essential.
Cody’s boating experience is extensive, with over 16,000 miles of offshore sailing under his belt. He has raced to Hawaii three times and completed four delivery trips back to California. One of his most memorable projects was fixing up an old Santa Cruz 27 with his college roommate. After two years of training and hard work, they set the record as the youngest duo to race double-handed in the 2010 Pacific Cup—a grueling 2,200-mile journey from San Francisco to Kaneohe Bay, Oahu.
At work, Cody is dedicated to delivering high-quality results through hard work and meticulous craftsmanship. He enjoys refining his skills in fairing and polyester resins, expanding his expertise beyond carbon racing sailboats. His advice to boaters? Never forget a cooking pot when racing offshore—a lesson he learned the hard way during the 2010 Pacific Cup.
Outside of the boatyard, Cody channels his creativity into painting, illustration, and graphic design. He also has a twin brother named Sam, a fun fact that often surprises people. Though he is new to the team, he has enjoyed meeting everyone and looks forward to collaborating on projects. His dedication and expertise make him a valuable addition to the crew.
